On behalf of the Southern Area Committee
Welcome to the new website for Southern Area Judo
The Southern Area is delighted to launch our new website which has been designed to provide our judo community with information on all aspects of the sport.
Southern Area Judo was established in the mid-1950s and is part of the British Judo Association (BJA). There is a long tradition of this Olympic sport that offers players of all ages and abilities the opportunities to develop total body fitness and stamina as well as self-confidence, discipline and mutual respect
The Area Committee and sub committees, all of whom are volunteers, are responsible for the overall strategic planning, promotion and delivery of judo activities as required by the British Judo Association, ensuring that activities, events, clubs, training courses etc are run in accordance with the relevant Sports Council and government guidelines. Links to the main documents, policies and BJA guidance are included throughout the website. Information about the committee and its members can be found on the various “About Us” pages. There is also a dedicated safeguarding page.
Each of the counties within the Southern Area; Guernsey, Hampshire, Jersey, Kent, Surrey and Sussex, has a dedicated page providing local information and a list of their BJA registered clubs. There are in excess of sixty judo clubs in the Area with a number of these practicing at multiple venues. Sessions are held in sports centres, community and church halls and purpose built dojos (Japanese term for hall where martial arts are practised). Additionally, many schools offer judo classes as an after-school activity.
There are tabs for gradings coaching and competitions, all of which provide detail of the sub committees with links to resources and information. A calendar of events is provided which will show the local competitions, gradings and training events as well as the dates for the SA Committee meetings. There is also a link to the BJA events calendar in order to check what is happening nationally. As judo competitions return, results will be published on the website.
The “Get Involved” section of the site explains how you can assist our judo community by volunteering or becoming a referee or technical official. Anyone can volunteer and help us provide the best judo experience possible for all those involved.
The “News” section of the website will be updated regularly. It would be fantastic to actually receive items and celebrate achievements from our members. Whilst we cannot guarantee all information would be published, we want to share local news and photographs.
We hope you find the website informative and visit regularly to keep up to date with what is going on in the Southern Area. Feedback is of course welcome.
